Fire and Fiber 2022
See my work in the Fire and Fiber show in Las Cruces, New Mexico, located in the Tombaugh Gallery at the Universalist Unitarian Church at 2000 S Solano. The aim of the show is to represent the fiber and ceramic arts in harmony, and exhibit the works of the artists in the Mesilla Valley. I entered two pieces into the show, one hanging piece and one pedestal piece. The show will move to Deming at The Deming Art Center in July. Ornaments and Empty Bowls
Production is well under way for our website stock and upcoming holiday sales. We are cranking out hundreds of holiday ornaments in so many different New Mexico and Zia Symbol shapes. We can't wait to see how they come out when glazed! We just have one more decision to make. To luster or not to luster? Who doesn't like a little gold sparkle in their life?
In more mundane musings, our home is looking so welcoming with all of the fall home decor. Who are we kidding. It's mostly Halloween decorations! But can you fault us?
Opening the first kiln!
We unloaded our first bisque kiln this last week. Being a little nervous, I stayed up and kept an eye on it all night. I truly believe that people don't make mistakes, they learn lessons. And there were were a few lessons learned from this kiln. A couple of bowls were lost and a few holiday ornaments cracked. Despite my nerves and the lost pots, I still consider this firing a massive success.
Good things are to come! Stay tuned to see how these pots come out glazed!
It's Finally Happening!
It seems that our daydream of working with clay professionally came to fruition much sooner than we thought. We are very proud to say our humble garage studio is now Old Picacho Pottery LLC! Our state documents are in the process of being finalized and the first kiln load is scheduled to be unloaded in a day or two. We are filled with nervous excitement!
Fall is right around the corner and the cats are loving the cold front that swept through the valley. I see spooky movies and cuddling on the couching our very near future!
In the local pottery world, we are full steam ahead on preparations for Empty Bowls 2020 . Empty Bowls is an event supporting El Caldito Soup Kitchen. Potters from all over the state donate their time and experience for the worthy cause. Stay tuned for updates!
